Tried & True Comes Out On Top In The Colors Regatta

There were 10 First 36.7 out for the Colors Regatta this past weekend.  Columbia Yacht Club race committee did a great job of getting five races off in two days with some challenging wind and weather conditions.  The competition on the water was tough as usual between the fleet, especially in the middle where only a few points separate the middle standings.  In the end Bob Foley and Team Tried & True came out on top with 8 points to win the regatta.  The Colors Regatta is the first series in the Best of Lake Michigan Championship for the Lake Michigan Beneteau 36.7 Fleet.

Off the water the owners and crews demonstrated great camaraderie and shared drinks and tales both on the docks at Dusable Harbor (thanks Chris and the Tequila Mockingbird Crew) and at Columbia Yacht Club. The owners and crews are one of the most fantastic part of this fleet which is demonstrated regatta after regatta.

The top three finishers for the Colors Regatta:

  1. Tried & True
  2. Tequila Mockingbird
  3. Stingray

Second Weekend of Racing - Weather Didn't Cooperate

This past weekend the Chicago 36.7 fleet participated in the second Belmont Circle race for our fleet along with the first BOY Buoy Race, the Olympic Cup.  Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate either day.  Saturday the wind turned off and the second race of the day was abandoned.  Sunday there was a harbor postponement and abandonment as very strong thunderstorms rolled through.

The fleet is hoping to see much better weather this weekend as we participate in the first Best of Lake Michigan Championship Regatta of the summer, the Colors Regatta hosted by Columbia Yacht Club.  There are currently 10 36.7 boats registered for the race which is a great regatta and fantastic practice for the Chicago NOODs.

All the info you need for the Colors Regatta; including the list of enteries and Sailing Instructions can be found online.

First 36.7 Event of the Season...Belmont Circle (May 21)

There was a strong showing of 12 Beneteau First 36.7s at the first set of Belmont Circle races on Saturday, May 21.  It was the intent of the race committee to run as many as seven short races for the boats and crews to get some practice in for the season, however the weather gods were not cooperating shutting the wind machine down after just the second race.

The fleet got right back into the swing of things on the race course with strong competition at the start and mark roundings.  The second race of the day saw at least five 36.7 over early.  The fleet also saw our newest member, Sorcerer, out on the water getting some good practice in prior to the busy upcoming June regattas.

The day ended with an abandonment by the race committee due to lack of wind and/or direction.  The CYC race committee did a fantastic job, and we look forward to many more races from them this season.  Standings for the first Belmont Circle Day can be found at Yacht Scoring, and here are the top boats for the day:

  1. Soulshine
  2. Stingray
  3. Split Decision
  4. Tequila Mockingbird

After the boats were back into the harbor, the fleets enjoyed a keg or two on the dock at Belmont talking about the day and the season to come.
